Below are some example of recent and current projects and activities we have undertaken

Pave Your Education Project:

Pave Your Education is the projects that runs January - February annually since 2010.The objective is this project is to give an opportunity to grade 12 learners from rural communities to go and do self-application in various Institution of higher learning. We arrange transport, food, and accommodation during these trips because application process for first timers does take two to three days. This project assists learners from application phase– registration phase – accommodation stage – and orientation attendance phase. MIYA conducted 5 Pave Your Education Projects, arranged tours to KZN, Gauteng and Bloemfontein

Career Exhibitions:

Career Exhibition is conducted yearly started in 2012; This is where we invite universities, colleges, and SETAs to showcase various career opportunities for high school learners. The areas where career exhibition will be held, is determined by the percentage of grade 12 pass rate. Thorough research is done prior to decide which community deserve MIYA career expo. These projects are hosted by MIYA in collaboration with Department of Education of a chosen community. 2012 Career Exhibition was attend by

1.  4 500 Learners from Qwaqwa, Free-State

 

2. 16 Institutions (Exhibitors) in attendance.

 

3.  Conducted 3 talks shows4.

Career Counselling Workshops

This project is inspired by University of Johannesburg “BE CLEAR Campaign”

All you need to do is be CLEAR about your future:

1. Choose your subjects wisely in Grade 9

 

2. Learn well in Grade 10

 

3. Earn the marks you need to go to university in Grade 11

 

4. Apply early with those marks in Grade 12

 

5. Register for tertiary study at UJ if you are accepted!

 

Discovering "what's next" is one of the most challenging and exciting steps in every individual's life and career. The purpose of this workshop is to equip you with the career management skills and resources to determine "what's next" and to achieve your career and life goal.

 

This project is inclusive of the following components:1. Assessment test writing 2. Analyses of the assessment 3. Matching results with tertiary courses and qualifications

We have held 2 Career Workshops, had 400 learners in attendance.

Career Counselling Workshops

Macro Informative Youth Agency Radio Slot is a radio show presented every Monday on 100.3 FM for Eastern Free-State listeners. We discuss Career development, Educational Enlightenment, and latest news on Higher Education Institutions of South Africa. With this slot, we have reached more than 1 0000 listeners over 1 and 6 months of our presence in this local radio station.We identified a radio as a medium of communication for rural communities; therefore we intend to expand to other radio stations in 2013.
